StepTrace is a browser-based Python learning tool. This policy describes how we handle information on our public website and when you use the service.
Information we collect
If you create an account, we store the email and account data needed to sign you in and save your drill progress. When you run code, execution happens in your browser; we do not upload your source code to our servers for ordinary runs.
Cookies and local storage
StepTrace may use cookies and browser storage for:
- Keeping you signed in (session and authentication cookies when you log in)
- Remembering your light or dark theme preference
- Understanding how visitors use our public pages (see Analytics below)
- Advertising, when enabled (see Google AdSense below)
You can clear cookies and site data in your browser settings. Signing out ends your session on this device.
Analytics
Our landing and marketing pages may use privacy-oriented web analytics (for example, Vercel Web Analytics) to measure traffic and improve the product. These tools collect aggregated usage data, not the Python code you write in the app.
Google AdSense and advertising
We may display ads on public pages of this site using Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites, to measure ad performance, and to limit how often you see an ad.
Third-party advertising vendors (including Google and partners in the Google advertising network) may collect or receive information from your browser when ads are shown or clicked, subject to their own privacy policies.
You can manage ad personalization and opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Google Ad Settings. You can also visit aboutads.info/choices for industry opt-out tools in some regions.
Children
StepTrace is intended for learners who can use the service responsibly. If you believe a child has provided personal data without appropriate consent, contact us and we will address it.

We may update this policy as the product or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the current version.
